I am Brittany, a late 20s gal living in Phoenix, AZ that is obsessed with exercise, healthy eating, and self-driven holistic wellness. But I wasn’t always this way.
I used to think that I had always been a “healthy” person my entire life….mostly because I felt good most of the time and never put on a lot of weight. But in all honesty, my early 20s involved long periods with no exercise, very unhealthy eating habits, and not dealing with emotions properly. The cracks started to show around 24, when I met my boyfriend (now fiancé). I also started studying Biological Sciences at ASU, and began looking at my health as a scientist would.
I experimented on myself day in and day out, trying to find what were the root causes of my problems and how I could fix them. Because I’ve never been a fan of pharmaceutical medication, I had to test out ALL the holistic methods there are.
I never expected myself to become a blogger. I don’t like having a lot of attention on me because I am very critical of what I put out into the world. And blogging opens me up to ALL kinds of criticism. But I started feeling the urge to want to share what I have found works. One day I realized that there may be other girls who are going through similar situations to mine. Or could be at the beginning of their health transformation journey, and may benefit from what I had already learned.
I wanted to start sharing all the things I wish I had known 5 years ago.
So I decided to start opening up about what I have learned. In the process, it has given me an entirely new motivation to continue on this path and devote any of my free energy to this space.
Being healthy is hard work. It doesn’t come easy. It requires a lot of dedication and time. It HAS to take priority in your life. But it is possible, even with a busy schedule. I share info and tips for living healthy in the REAL WORLD. I work two full time jobs while running Zoetic Groove, eat a Paleo diet, devote time to managing my anxiety, and take care of home life. The things I write about are relatable, because I test and apply them in my busy life. I don’t have loads of free time open in my schedule. This means that everything I share is applicable in all real-life situations, such as cooking healthy with minimal time and money available, eating and exercising while on vacation, and making small lifestyle tweaks to maximize results. I hope to share my research and experiments so that you can become more informed and apply the information into your own life.
My background story is full of twists and turns, backflips and somersaults! I will dive into different facets in more detail at later points, but for now will give you the Cliff Notes version.
I was always active from ages 4-19 due to vigorous involvement in classical dance training. Jazz, tap, ballet, modern, hip hop, I have learned it all. After high school, I had a very hard time learning how to stay active without a regimented dance schedule to follow. I was also learning how to cook for myself, and had no real knowledge of how to properly nourish myself while on a tight budget. Along with these growing pains that most of us encounter in our early 20s, I was also dealing with the onset of depression and anxiety in my life.
All of these events culminated in me deciding to make lifestyle changes in my way of living. But where to begin for someone like me who had no real knowledge of health and wellness? I started where any 20-something millennial would look for advice and information. I turned to my trusty friend Google.
Because there is so much information on the internet, it can be so overwhelming to decipher which information is useful and valid. So I approached everything the old fashioned way of trial and error. I would try something for a period of time and examine the results. I would also start combining methods together to see if they would work even better together. This has been my method for the past 5 years and still is in use today.
I want you to feel good, inside and out. I strive every day to feel the same way. I genuinely enjoy helping everyone around me to achieve this. I hope that you come here to learn more about yourself, find out what makes you tick, makes you stronger, makes you happy.
